Four Singers, One Band: Who Sang When

· The Band

Black Flag has had four singers in the years our designs come from. Here's who sang when, and which records go with each of them.

Who sang first?

Keith Morris. He founded the band with Greg Ginn in Hermosa Beach in 1976, when we were still called Panic. "Six Pack" is a song written about him.

Who came next?

Ron Reyes. The Jealous Again EP was recorded with him on vocals.

And after Ron Reyes?

Dez Cadena took over as singer in 1980.

When did Henry Rollins join?

In 1981. Damaged came out that year, with "Rise Above" as its best-known single, followed by My War, Family Man and Slip It In in 1984, and Loose Nut and In My Head in 1985.

What happened after 1986?

Our final show of that era was on 27 June 1986 in Detroit. There were reunion shows in 2003, Greg Ginn reformed the band in 2013 for What The…, and a reunion tour followed in 2019.

How do I choose a design?

Start with the band itself: the four bars Raymond Pettibon designed, the BLACK FLAG wordmark, and the records from 1976 to 1986. Some tips:

  • Pick by record: each era has its releases, so start with the one you know best.
  • Pick by mark: the four bars and the wordmark work with any era.
  • Pick by weather: a tee for summer, a crewneck or hoodie when it gets cold.

Every design comes on tees, long sleeves, crewnecks and hoodies, plus kids' and youth sizes.
